This morning I saw our first frost of the autumn and it was beautiful. You have a busy week ahead. Oh yes you have because I need you to exercise your right as a member of the Campaign for Real Ale and vote! First of all there is the vote for Champion Beer Of Britain. You will have received an email from Nik Antona (did you put it straight in the bin? naughty naughty!) If you want to see a beer from Devon as the Champion then you must vote. Go to the CamRA website and follow the link. I know you haven’t done it yet because out of 300 members only 7 people have voted so far! This is a bit embarrassing. Next I need your nominations for our Branch Club Of The Year, Cider Pub Of The Year and Pub Of The Year! If you belong to a club that serves real ale and that would let me in to judge it then let me know the name – simples! If you know of a pub that always sells real cider then let me know so that our cider drinking judges can go and judge it. Finally attached are the 27 pubs in our current Good Beer Guide, take a look, decide which one you would like to see as our Branch Pub Of The Year and let me know. The deadline for nominations is Friday 23rd October. So, make your choice, click on ‘reply’, tell me your choices and I will do the rest! GO ON! Our next meeting is on Saturday 24th October at The Plymouth Inn, Okehampton. Our Regional Director – Gareth MacDonald – will be presenting the landlord with a special certificate in recognition of 20 years continuous entry in The Good Beer Guide. Quite an achievement I think you will agree. I do hope that you will be there. Mark is also running a minibus, details of which are on the Information Update attached. In November our meeting takes the form of a Festive Lunch on Saturday 28th November at our Branch Pub Of The Year, The Red Lion at Exbourne. I am taking bookings as places are limited. A menu is attached. Mark is also running a minibus, details of which are on the Information Update attached. The next issue of our Branch newsletter – Beer Tiz – is due for publication in December. If you have anything interesting to say please get it to the Editor – Ron Lester – within the next few weeks. Look on our branch website for further details. Finally, I have received an invitation from Exeter and East Devon Branch to their Festival Of Winter Ales at Exeter football ground on Friday & Saturday 15th & 16 of January. Several of us volunteer to work there and we would love you to join us. It is a great experience, busy but not overwhelming; you will get lots of support if you are new to beer festival staffing. Let me know if you would like to do this with us and I will forward the information required by the staffing officer. So, I look forward to hearing from you within the next couple of days, and also to seeing you at The Plymouth Inn, and the Red Lion in the next few weeks. Vote now – you know you want to! cheers Fiona
