Dec 092016

Ho Ho Ho!

A little early maybe, but as I am currently dressed in red and residing in a grotto I could not resist the greeting.  Please accept my apologies for not attending the Branch meeting this Saturday (10th) at 12.30 at The Plymouth Inn in Okehampton where the two main items for discussion are our Pub Of The Year nominations and Good Beer Guide nominations.  I am grateful to all of you who made the effort to get your nominations to Fiona and Bob for these two most important items.  I am always disappointed that so few members voice their opinions until the process is complete and they don't like the outcome.

Our December meeting will be the last of 2016 and then we head off into 2017.  Future meeting dates are:

14th January – Branch social meeting at Exeter and East Devon Branch Festival Of Winter Ales.  I really look forward to seeing you there, please come and say hello.

11th February 12.30 at The Corner House in Barnstaple

and most importantly

11th March 12.30 BRANCH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING at The Kings Arms, South Zeal.  If you have any items for discussion you have a few months to formulate them and send them to either Chris Wells, Branch Secretary or me.  We have already proposed discussing the selection processes for our various branch awards including Pub Of The Year, our Branch Constitution and the date of future AGMs.

Now, our great Social Secretary, Mark, has been extra busy on your behalf arranging all sorts of wonderful excuses to get together and enjoy some fine ales.  On Saturday 25th February he has arranged a visit to Exeter Brewery.  The cost will be £17.50 and this includes the brewery tour, hours of drinking and a pie and mash supper.  Meeting at Barnstaple railway station members will pay their own return fare to Exeter St. Davids.  On Saturday 13th May there will be a special 'Campaigning Day' trip around pubs in the northern part of our branch area.  For more details of both of these please contact Mark as usual –

Issue 13 of Beer Tiz, our branch newsletter is due to be delivered within the next couple of days so please look out for it in your local and get in touch with the relevant pubs officer if it does not appear.  Perhaps you could help with delivery?

Finally, Sue and John Hirst are arranging for branch polo shirts/rugby shirts etc to be available for members to order.  Come along to a branch meeting to find out more.

I wish you all health and happiness in 2017.  Perhaps I will meet up with you at The Camra Members Weekend or even the Great British Beer Festival!  Have a look at our branch website for all the great beer festivals locally and at the CamRA website for national events.

Lastly, consider volunteering to be a branch officer.  The roles are varied and fun.  Talk to me or to Fiona or to any branch officer if you want to know more.

Ho Ho Ho,  Merry Christmas
